چکیده

This paper proposes an efficient combination of algorithms for the automated localization of the optic disc and macula in retinal fundus images. There is in fact no reason to assume that a single algorithm would be optimal. An ensemble of algorithms based on different principles can be more accurate than any of its individual members if the individual algorithms are doing better than random guessing. We aim to obtain an improved optic disc and macula detector by combining the prediction of multiple algorithms, benefiting from their strength and compensating their weaknesses. The location with maximum number of detectors’ outputs is formally the hotspot and is used to find the optic disc or macula center. An assessment of the performance of integrated system and detectors working separately is also presented. Our proposed combination of detectors achieved overall highest performance in detecting optic disc and fovea closest to the manually center chosen by the retinal specialist.

Automatic Optic Disc Center and Boundary Detection in Color Fundus Images

Accurately detection of retinal landmarks, like optic disc, is an important step in the computer aided diagnosis frameworks. This paper presents an efficient method for automatic detection of the optic disc’s center and estimating its boundary. The center and initial diameter of optic disc are estimated by employing an ANN classifier. The ANN classifier employs visual features of vessels and th...

Automatic Detection of the Fovea and Optic Disk in Digital Retinal Images by Combining Algorithms*

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the damage to the eye’s retina that occurs with long-term diabetes, which can eventually lead to blindness. Screening programs for DR are being introduced, however, an important prerequisite for automation is the accurate location of the main anatomical features in the image, notably the optic disc (OD) and the macula. A series of interesting algorithms have been pr...

Morphological Exudate Detection in Retinal Images using PCA-based Optic Disc Removal

Diabetic retinopathy lesion detection such as exudate in fundus image of retina can lead to early diagnosis of the disease. Retinal image includes dark areas such as main blood vessels and retinal tissue and also bright areas such as optic disk, optical fibers and lesions e.g. exudate. In this paper, a multistage algorithm for the detection of exudate in foreground is proposed. The algorithm se...

Automatic Detection of Anatomical Structures in Digital Fundus Retinal Images

This paper proposes a novel system for the automatic detection of important anatomical structures such as the Optic Disc (OD), Blood Vessels and Macula in digital fundus retinal images. The novelty is in extraction of blood vessels and localization of macula. OD localization is done using Principle Component Analysis (PCA) followed by an active contour based approach for accurate segmentation o...

Automated Localisation of Optic Disc and Macula from Fundus Images

Optic disc (OD) detection is a main step while developing automated screening systems for diabetic retinopathy. Optic disc boundary and localization of macula are the two features of retina was necessary for the detection of exudates and also knowing the severity of the diabetic maculopathy. According to the prior information, the diameter of optic disc in a standard retinal image, connected co...
